The focus of this unit is on learning about the sewing machine and about basic sewing processes. Students will also learn to handle woven fabrics. Through the Technology Process, they will  investigate a variety of designs working towards creating a pyjama pant. Students will complete samples of techniques used during the construction process.

 

Year 8 Textiles (Trimester Unit)

The focus of this unit is on learning about building on the techniques learned in year 7. Students will learn how to operate the sewing machine and about basic sewing processes. Students will also learn to handle appropriate fashion fabrics. Through the Technology Process, they will research and investigate a variety of designs working towards creating a fashionable garment for themselves. Students will complete samples of techniques used during the construction process.

 

Year 9 Textiles (Semester Unit)

The focus of this unit will be on making garments for themselves. Students will build on the practical skills developed in Year 8, including more advanced skills in garment construction, and the handling of woven and stretch-knit fabrics. Through the Technology Process, they will research and investigate a variety of design components and a range of fabrics and finishing techniques, working towards creating individual garments for themselves. Students will also complete samples of techniques used in garment construction.

 

Year 10 Textiles and Fashion (Semester Unit)

This subject provides students with opportunities to display creativity, use their initiative and develop problem-solving skills through designing and making garments.

After completing a folio of embellishments students will be given the opportunity to create a garment with embellishments.

Through the Technology Process, they will investigate design principles and record the progression of their work.
