Semester 1: Music through the ages
My Hit Single
Are you the next singer/songwriter? Get creative with this song writing unit where you will gain the practical skills to compose your own hit single and explore the greatest hits of all time. Learn from famous bands in the industry and work with upcoming artists such as students from WAAPA’s Contemporary Music programme. Go behind the scenes to a recording studio, learn to use sound equipment, instruments and music software to create your hit single. At the conclusion of the unit you will have the opportunity to enter your song into the WA Music Song of the Year competition. No prior music experience required.
Semester 2: Music through the ages
Heroes and Villains in Film and Television
Lights, camera, music! Have you ever tried to watch a TV show or a movie without music? Discover your power as a film and television composer as you compose for your favourite scenes from the likes of Hollywood, Disney and Universal Studios.
Use tools like sound effects and Foley stage to capture the attention of an audience. Learn how to create drama, action and suspense for your favourite hero or villain through music. Then roll out the red carpet and watch your music come to life on the big screen at the world premiere of the Year 9 Night of the Oscars.
Year 10 Music
Yearlong: Music through the Ages
Explore how music has evolved through the Ages in a practical and hands-on approach developing skills in performing, arranging, composing and analysis. In an exciting collaboration with university students from WAAPA and UWA and a world-class artist in residence program, students learn from expert tuition and real-world opportunities that will culminate in a shared concert experience. This unit will prepare students for the Year 11 General, ATAR and IB Music Courses.
Semester 1: Broadway Musicals
Explore music from hit musicals on Broadway. They will be given the opportunity to see all that they have studied come to life by viewing a professional musical at the conclusion of the unit. Students will learn about how musicals came into being, the ingredients of a successful musical, create and perform their very own mini musical and explore some of the greatest musical hits that continue to be loved by billions around the world.
Semester 2: The World of Video Gaming
Arcades, PlayStation, Xbox, and apps come to life in the world of video game music. This unit explores the music that we have grown to love and listen to through the gaming industry. Students will be given the opportunity to create their own music game app and put music to it that will then feature on PLC radio.
