Boxilates combines boxing and pilates to challenge your strength, co-ordination, flexibility and get your heart rate up. It is an interval-style workout that switches between cardio boxing and slow, controlled Pilates core exercises. The class is positive, uplifting and you’ll work up a sweat to some great music.

Mindfulness Meditation (Years 7 – 12)

The aim of the Mindfulness Meditation Programme is to equip PLC students with the tools to manage their wellbeing and reduce the impacts of stress and anxiety.  Mindfulness meditation at PLC is taught over the course of 9 weeks and comprises one 45-minute session per week, as well as a recommended home practice of 5-10 minutes per day.

The following content will be covered during the 9-week co-curricular opportunity:

–           Introduction to mindfulness.

–           Mindfulness and the power of being present.

–           Paying attention to the breath.

–           Paying attention to sensations, thoughts and feelings as they arise in the body.

–           Gently bringing the mind back when it wanders.

–           Acceptance and non-judgement.

–           Quieting the mind.

–           Dealing with thoughts non-judgmentally.

–           Dealing with negative thoughts and emotions non-judgmentally.

–           Cultivating self-compassion.

–           Gratitude and contentment.

Boxing & Fitness (Years 7 – 12; Open to PLC Community)

This class will get your heart rate pumping. You’ll start with a warmup and then go through the basics (jabs, hooks, uppercuts) along with how to successfully duck a punch. After learning the skills, you partner up and try the new moves out with some conditioning and interval training, as well as an ab workout.

Colour My World (Years 7 – 12)

Colour My World is a creative group activity that promotes physical and emotional wellbeing through expressive art activities. There is mounting evidence showing that engaging in art activities can be helpful to reduce stress and encourages self-expression through painting, drawing and 3D artwork.

Details of each workshop are listed below:
Session 1 – Creating a Journal ( Journal decoration)
The benefit of journaling is well known. During this session we will decorate a mini craft notebook and create a personal journal.
Session 2 – Jewellery is a girls best friend!
This week we are making braided necklaces, using an assortment of materials like wool, leather, beads,etc.
Session 3 – Bag Glitz and Glamour!
Decorating a hessian bag using rags, glitter sheets, beads, and 3D objects. The sky is the limit!
Session 4 – Clay Play
We are using Polymer Clay to create beads and shapes to use in our jewellery.
Session 5 – Mood Bears
Creating Mood Bears using Calico bears, Polyester filling, Fabric dye and other materials.
Session 6 – Sharing good wishes – Card Making
Using Scratch postcards, craft cards and envelopes, spiral glitter glue and other materials we are creating cards to share with a special person.
Session 7 – Tree Decorations
‘Sparkle’ is the operative word for this session. Using felt birds and stars, sequins, threads and beads, we are aiming to create interesting decorations for our trees.
